A hop away from the excitement of ZhongXiao/DunHua,
Meeting is a prime after-work spot for...well, exactly
what the name implies. Conveniently enough, the Chinese
name has a double innuendo: it means a place for Nine-to-Five-ers
as well as a place where you can booze away and boogie
on down.
The stylishly 1960's retro decor itself makes Meeting
worthy enough for a visit. Inside, you'll find a plethora
of animal print fabrics, gorgeously tacky chandeliers,
funky carpeting and various interesting chatchkas. Each
piece of furniture is unique and carefully placed in
such a way that the setting seems extravagant but not
overdone or cliched.
And their attitude is just as comfy
as their couches. When it's time to place your order,
your server will happily plop down next to you to have
a chat or make some recommendations. The night I went
there, the vivacious boss insisted I try Meeting's "creme
de la creme". The specialty cocktails (NT$250-450)
are worth a taste. We sipped on the Red Wern (NT$280),
a fruity red wine cocktail with a special aroma, and
the Blue Aegean Sea (NT$280), a rum-based blend with
a fresh coconut flavor. As for food, there's a variety
of snacks as well as pasta and rice entrees. The most
intruiging was the Sour with Spicy Black Egg Mixed,
which put a great Thai spin on a classic Taiwanese dish
by adding vinegar and chilis. A popular choice, the
Spaghetti with Seafood in X.O. Sauce had much zest without
being too heavy.
What's more are the special discounts
available throughout the week. Every night features
an unlimited drink special (weekdays NT$490, weekends
NT$590). This price drops to NT$290 on Mondays for Nine-to-Five-ers,
Wednesdays for ladies and Sundays for students.
After a long day at work, Meeting's plush sofas and
tasty concotions are an instant dose of grandmotherly
love. Score a top seat at this hipster hang out and
just let loose.
