There
is a a good-and-true watering hole to be found
in Tienmu, one that is true to its theme. That
place is Jake's Bar. All y'all rattlesnake victims
know where it is, but seldom go there for more
than pancakes and pies at the Country Kitchen
downstairs.
Once rocking and still rolling, a near-forgotten
vestige of American expatriate life in Tienmu,
Jake's is where my friend Jim Buhle and I ended
up as we both searched for that last whisky bar. Walking
in, I felt like I was in New Mexico, the kind of
place with high chaparral and rocky mountains. "Everybody
knows about Jake's, but sometimes you forget that
this is a fine place to get great service and great
food, and have a great time...late at night," my
friend replied. As a true watering hole should,
I thought.
At Jake's, the burritos are excellent, the staff
is friendly and the rock is distinctly American.
Dr. Hook aside, for a watering hole, Jake's bar
is cozy and benefits from having Jake's Country
Kitchen to support it. It can be downright honky-tonking
at times. |
