Moshi Moshi by Naomi

By Josie Wu
Translated by Patricia Li

A matriarch of Taipei's lounge scene, Naomi is taking advantage of the reputation she has established, and is marking the first-year celebration of her lounge opening by unveiling a sister establishment on DaAn Road.

Moshi Moshi by Naomi--a dining room, lounge, and club--takes Taipei's nightlife in a fresh, new direction.

Designer Du Bian Zhi Zhao has transformed this two-story building with astonishing modern flair. Bricks accent the layered gray concrete exterior. Visible through the second-story full glass pane are flashing blue strobe lights. Black wood paneling adds a touch of elegance. The calm, cool exterior makes the interior all the more mysterious.

Enter Moshi Moshi and you become the essence of the design. A row of pillars lines the corridor with a mirrored wall waiting at the end. The club atmosphere is at once intoxicatingly narcissistic and voyeuristic. The high black ceiling compliments the white and gray interior. Suspended from the second floor ceiling, a crystal chandelier lends an air of grace in the blue lighting. The long bar extends on the first floor as does a long antique sofa.

Take the stairs to the second-floor VIP area where white curtains wall off private spaces and pure white sofas invite you to linger. A row of sofas looks like a long bed with pure white throw pillows to cuddle. This redefines Taipei's club scene. A contrast to Naomi's northern European coziness, Moshi Moshi by Naomi is cool, giving traditional style a modern edge. It retains hints of the elegant and traditional, remarkably beautiful in the daylight hours or at night.
