Watershed is one of those unique drinking spots where, if you know about it, there is a certain feeling of coolness about being able to tell others you go there. Located off the happening AnHe Road area at 123, WenChang Street, it isn't easy to find. However, that adds to its mystique. The owner, Xiaoluo, told me, "We're small but we keep the business because of word of mouth."

Watershed is definitely not an imitation of other bars and has its own unique character. The bar stools are high, as is the bar, helping you understand what it is like to be a pro basketball player. The bar area is also very narrow with high ceilings. Decorations are few, keeping your attention on the bar.

Xiaolou was an interior designer before and likes the minimalist approach around the bar. It works. There is a feeling of contemporary casualness as you take in your surroundings and listen to the very hip music in the background. Xiaolou remarked that he may change the bar and turn it upside down. Clearly, he is a man who isn't afraid to try new things.

Drinks prices are standard for Taipei and run around NT$200. The pours are fine and the service friendly, adding up as the sort of place to hang out with a couple friends. However, there is more to Watershed than meets the eye when you first walk in. There is a downstairs that is almost the exact opposite of the upstairs. Ceilings are lower with classy couches, chairs, chests and tables giving a you feeling of going back in time--not opulent but more like visiting a room from a bygone era. The room, with its decor, invites you to relax and talk with whoever you are with.

Watershed can only hold 40 or 50 people, so don't be surprised to find it packed out on the weekends. When people find a place that is special, there is going to be a crowd. Watershed is such an establishment. Although there are different looks and feels to the place, depending on where you decide to drink, Watershed lends itself to an atmosphere to where good times flow on and on.
