45 is an established giant on the Shih-Ta nightlife scene,
particularly for foreigners and their friends. The crowds
on Saturday nights get so intense that it is hard to fight
one's way to the bar. During the rest of the week, however,
there is usually a nice-sized, but not overwhelming, crowd.
The decor is wood, wood and more wood. Wood tables and benches
show their regular use, but in a pleasant well-worn sort of
way. The pub has two sections, each a separate bar area. The
crowds seem to cluster around the connecting doorway and float
between these two areas. Customers seem to be younger, often
students and English teachers drawn to the bustling atmosphere
and inexpensive beer and sandwiches. For those who remember,
it seems to have taken the throne of the original Roxy, exuding
almost exactly the same atmosphere, minus the dancing area.
45 Pub is slightly hard to find. Located about a block down
from Roosevelt Road on HePing East Road, the little sign and
narrow stairwell leading up belies the actual size of the
place. For a laid-back time of enjoying beers with your friends,
45 is well-worth checking out.
