Many Korean restaurants in Taipei are run by Taiwanese or Korean-born Chinese, so it's relatively rare to find a Korean owned, operated and staffed restaurant. The newly-open Korean House, however, offers just that. Korean House serves common, family-style dishes like barbecued meats, sliced rice cakes, pan fried seafood, beef casserole with odeng and clea soup with dough flakes. Some of the popular dishes here include Fried Cuttlefish (NT$450), which is made with fresh cuttlefish and onions, carrots and Korean-style sauces--you can decide how spicy your dish will be. In order to maintain authenticity, many of their ingredients and sauces are imported from Korea. Also, the generous owner will periodically give away appetizers like kimchi to random tables, making the trip even more fun. --By Mandy Chao, translated by Ann Lee
A. To enjoy the Grilled Side Cut of Pork (NT$300) or Grilled Rib Eye Roll (NT$350) the Korean way, grill the meat and vegetables, like kimchi and white mushrooms. After the meat is cooked, wrap the mixture in a lettuce leaf and dip the wrap into the sauce.
B. Inside Korean House, you will find an abundance of Korean ornaments and decorations.
