Located near the alleys by Shin-Kong
Mitsukoshi Department Store is Saffran, a place
that provides authentic Indian cuisine with great
Indian aura. Saffran has an elegant ambiance with
lots of trendy and folk-inspired decorations.
The owner here is an Indian native and has been
doing business in Taiwan for many years. He says
that it was his long-term dream to open an authentic
Indian restaurant. His wife Sandra adds, "In
order to present a finer selection of Indian dishes,
Saffran is careful when it comes to choosing the
right ingredients. There are close to 80 items
on the menu, and they are all being specially
chosen, in hopes to introduce more than just family-type
cuisine to the guests in Taiwan." --By Josie
Wu, translated by Ann Lee
A. Sandra recommends the Jhinga
Panaji (NT$390), Elaichi Ka Bhuna Ghost (Lamb
flavored with mix of freshly ground white and
black cardamons in thick gravy sauce / NT$380),
Sag Paneer (NT$270), Tikka Saffron (Chicken marinated
in Indian herbs and assorted nut paste, flavored
with exotic saffron and finished in clay oven/
NT$380), Gosht Chop (Tender pieces of lamb chop
marinated in special Indian herbs, cooked in clay
oven/ NT$450), and Mix Vegetables Raita (NT$110).
Every dish is cooked with healthy concepts, without
the use of excess oil.
B. Saffron brings the clay oven
from the kitchen to outdoors, so patrons can watch
the chefs cook away. Apart from ordering from
the menu, you may also order a la carte or to
go.
