XiMenDing's latest addition is the icing on western Taipei's home of what's hip. Dalida takes its name from the French diva, who makes regular appearances on the sound system at this Euro-style cafe. Taking advantage of its location on the square surrounding the Red Theater, Dalida expands outward with an outdoor patio and a second-story terrace. They have outdoor heaters to combat any chill that should beset us this December. Inside is intimate and warm--especially the second-story loft. It's a cozy place to sip hot chocolate or Illy espresso with friends or while surfing the net (Wi-Fi available). Just like in European cafes, there is something stronger on offer behind the bar. Dalida has Stella on tap and, beyond the usual cocktails, there's sake and sangria. Dalida is owned by Calvin and Alvin, who used to man the bar at Fresh. They bring a little Paris and some Tokyo style together in Dalida, with a friendliness that's all Taipei.

Regulations require Taiwan Fun to remind readers not to drink and drive.
