I lived in Taipei for almost
three years before discovering G & G in a
quiet alley near Swenson's in Tianmu. G &
G has been around for over 25 years and gets its
fair share of traffic. G & G carries Western
staples like cereal, salad dressing, crackers,
diet soda, granola bars, cake mixes and frosting.
You can also find Slim-fast products, Crisco shortening,
brownie mixes, Milky Way bars and Jell-o pudding.
What makes G & G unique is their in-house
deli. With imported cheeses and meats available,
you can feast on a tasty sandwich while reading
a newspaper in their cozy dining area. Sandwiches
run from NT$135 to NT$155, and you can choose
from a variety of homemade breads. Bagels, soups,
salads and homemade yogurt are also on the menu.
Most of the imported products are located in the
basement, which also boasts a large selection
of wines. G & G even offers cooking classes
only in Chinese -- but don't let that stop you!
Why not sign up for a class and learn how to make
delicacies like sorbetto di mango and salmone
alle seme costolette? Pick up some Apple Jacks
while you're at it.
