This was the first traditional Taiwanese-style
breakfast place to open in YongHe. Established in 1955,
it took a while to become popular but since then has
been going from strength to strength. In 1975, they
decided to stay open 24 hours a day. The food is excellent
and there is a good choice of dishes, including Shaobing,
radish cake and Malay Steamed Sponge Cake as well as
steamed dumplings and Youtiao. Tofu- and vegetable-filled
pasties are also very popular. As the name suggests,
the soya milk is also very good. One of the advantages
of going to a traditional-style breakfast place is that
you can choose whether or not to have your soya milk
sweetened or as a soup-like dish with spice and spring
onions. The business is now being run by the founder's
son and they have started to open other branches. A
nice touch is that the employees are on a profit-share
arrangement, which is maybe how they manage to stay
cheerful no matter what time of day you're turning up!
This is an excellent place to take visitors to, or just
for an after-hours snack! |
