--By Dionysus, translated by Cara Steenstra
The Wang Steak restaurant group has
stepped over into the world of Japanese kaiseki cuisine
by adding an element of creativity and opened up the
ikki Creative Kaiseki Cuisine restaurant, situated in
the business district between DunHua North and MinSheng
East roads. Outside, it's hard to miss the eye-catching
black restaurant sign while, inside, a winding staircase
leads to a fountain and rectangular-shaped dining area.
There are also different sized VIP rooms. The distinctive
cutlery accents the simple yet exquisite food served
here. With the daring use of black as a main color theme
and strong splashes of red to complement the decor,
a play of light and shadows and the use of tassels all
exude a modern Eastern elegance. Ikki sets itself apart
from traditional kaiseiki cuisine by offering more moderate
prices and mostly providing set meals. Weekday lunches
are between NT$800 and NT$1,200, and dinners are NT$1,200.
These include an appetizer, two main dishes, dessert
and other items. The kaiseiki art of displaying food
ensures that both your stomach and your eyes can enjoy
a real feast. Dishes include Apple Salad from Hokkaido,
Sea Cucumber and Mountain Yam Fine Noodles, and Soft
Shell Crab with Sweet Potato. Main courses include Barbecued
Beef with Foie Gras, Lobster Cooked in Sauce, Stone
Roasted Goat and others.
