When you go to Gasthaus Zum Adler, make sure you're
hungry! Host Bernie Soffner believes in generous portions
and authentic ingredients when he serves up the favourites
of Southern Germany. The German Pig Hock or Eisbein
is reasonably priced at NT$500 for the Single Meal or
NT$620 for the Royal Meal, which includes a mini chocolate
mint drink, a salad, a home-made bun, soup, coffee,
tea, orange or peach juice and cake or double ice cream.
I ordered Bavarian Schnitzel (NT$290) from the lunchtime
menu (available Monday to Friday NT$199- NT$290), served
with a choice of two soups, a homemade bun and coffee,
tea, orange or peach juice. It was so large that I had
to take half home. Bernie insisted I sample the Bavarian
Meatloaf, which is specially made by a local butcher
and then baked fresh for each customer (please allow
20 minutes for preparation). Leave Space for dessert!
Bernie makes eight flavours of Italian ice cream (NT$65
single, NT$85 double), German cakes and Chocolate Bananas!
