Strolling along the intersection
of Zhongshan North Road and Zhongcheng Road,
you'll come across a pleasant surprise in the
midst of the busy city. Hidden behind a modern
silver building are marble steps that lead to
an oval plaza. As if entering another world,
you'll see people enjoying afternoon tea in
surroundings filled with flowers and the gentle
sound of a fountain.

You haven't traveled to another
country. This is Specchio. Lifelike fresco
paintings depicting a 16th-century kitchen
can almost convince you that cooks are bustling
around, making pizzas. |
 |
Specchio started out as an Italian buffet
restaurant. The owner later caught up with the
trend for healthy and natural cuisine, and replaced
the buffet with healthful and creative Western
dishes. Using simple ingredients that emphasize
the food's natural flavors, the place now offers
a wide variety of traditional Mediterranean
cuisine.
 |
Besides the more traditional
charcoal baked pizza (NT$200) and Italian
spaghetti (NT$220), there are also many
new and innovative plates. To name a few:
Norwegian smoked salmon with lemon yogurt
sauce, pan-fried lemon vinegar tuna (NT$180),
crab meat casserole, Hungarian beef, shrimp
cocktail, and Italian raw beef (NT$150).
Other strongly recommended dishes are: roasted
garlic chicken (NT$480), traditional roast
beef with corn bread, roasted German pork,
Napoleon pastries, and almond mango tart.
You can order everything by itself or enjoy
the full-course meal sets (lunch NT$380
to NT$480, dinner NT$650). |
If you enjoy Mediterranean cuisine, Specchio's
definitely a place for you and your friends
to gather, and enjoy a magical meal.
