As soon as you walk in the door of Ta Chai Men, you can smell
the pleasant aroma of its specialty, meat stew. No artificial
flavoring is added, so the natural taste of the stewed meat
and vegetables is maintained. This eatery claims that all
of its dishes are healthy because they are low-sodium and
prepared without the use of preservatives. As this is a student
hangout, the prices are very reasonable. Side dishes include
Brussels sprouts (NT$20), pigeon eggs (NT$10) and sticky taro
cake (NT$15). Set meals include fried fish (NT$110), beef
sirloin steak (NT$130) and beef braised in Chinese herbs (NT$130).
All include a drink and soup. Ta Chai Men is very generous
with its drink sizes, so order a small cup unless you are
really thirsty. Hot teas come in a pot with one free water
refill. If you are looking for a place to eat with friends,
there are private dining rooms downstairs in the basement,
decorated with classical Chinese designs.-- By Little Ann
