PIGS
AND PEOPLE
Some time around 7000 B.C. in either the Middle
East and/or China, pigs were domesticated from
wild boars which, through selective breeding,
became the domestic pig we know today. Being
omnivorous, smart and easily trained, pigs were
one of the first and easiest animals to domesticate.
Not only are pigs used for food, but their skins
have served purposes as varied as shields for
war and (American) footballs, their bones have
served for tools and weapons and their bristles
used in brushes.
Pigs have also had a strong
religious impact. Judaism and Islam both specifically
forbid the eating of pork. In Hinduism, the
god Vishnu took the form of a boar in order
to save the world from a demon who had dragged
it to the bottom of the ocean. Pigs are frequently
used as sacrifices, including in Taoist ceremonies
and as offerings to the Greek goddess Demeter.
Pigs have no sweat glands, which
is why they like to wallow in mud. They grow
40 times faster than humans, and are widely
known to be very intelligent animals.

Fortunes and fengshui for the Year of the Pig
Didn't experience much luck
in the year 2006? As everyone looks forward
to new beginnings in the year ahead, people
around Taiwan are following the tradition of
cleaning their homes before the lunar new year.
The belief is that in doing so, the energy (chi)
in their households will be regulated.
For the Year of the Pig, place
objects related to elements of soil and fire
in the southwest location of your house or office
to increase personal fortune. Such objects include
pottery, porcelain artifacts or yellowish/red
candles. Place a picture of you and your loved
one on the east side of any room, using a wooden
photo frame, to ensure a stable relationship
for the rest of the year. If you are still single,
placing two heart-shaped or yuan-yang (mandarin
duck) images can help increase your luck in
love.
According to Western astrology,
the Year of the Pig is a great year of fortune
for Scorpio, Cancer and Sagittarius. Relationships
and experiences with people accumulated in the
past will come into play this year, but don't
forget to give something back to society by
doing public service as well. As for Libra,
Virgo and Pisces, you'll learn different lessons
about love this year, whether it's leaving an
old partner or meeting someone new.
Aries, Gemini and Taurus, you
will have a chance to pursue further education,
which could possibly help you in increase your
professional knowledge. A word of advice to
Leo and Capricorn: Try not to sweat the small
stuff and keep an open mind to things. Last
but not least, Aquarius people--known for their
independence--need to focus on interpersonal
relationships this year. Try to interact with
others more frequently.
Becker at Becker's Tarot Card
& Crystal Reading reminds you to put your
imagination into practice, and often think of
a sky full of rainbows. This will bring endless
energy to your everyday life. Wishing everyone
a Happy Pig Year!
("A salty pig's hand.")
Describing men touching women in an inappropriate
way.
PIG DISHES
Pigs are really very edible;
apart from the hair on their necks, we eat everything
that makes up a pig. All kinds of dishes have
been created from parts of this animal, including
its head, tongue, heart, liver, skin, and blood.
These have all been prepared in a different
ways to sate our appetites, leading us to conclude
that, among 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac,
pigs make the most contributions to human beings.
