Artist:
Alanis Morissette
Title: The Collection
Label: SONY
Alanis Morrissette is known for her
unique musical style and vocals, and for stirring up
a wave of female rock 'n' roll sensation. In this collection
album, there is a good balance between the artist's
choices and commercialism. The non-stop rhythm of "Head
Over Feet" is sensational. "8 Easy Steps"
contains Middle Eastern mystery. "Everything"
is an ode to her fans and an exploration of self. "Ironic"
is sensibility expressing frustration. "Simple
Together" talks about past memories in calm moving
vocals. "You Oughta Know" screams pain of
betrayal. "Sister Blister" is clouded in an
air of uneasy rebelliousness with the use of strong
guitar. "Mercy" brings in strings and chorus,
softening her fierce vocals. "Still (From Dogma)"
is filled with disharmony and suddenness. "Uninvited"
has slow heavy beats and dramatic falsettos that feel
like the calm before the storm. The entire album is
multi-faceted with rock, folk, electronic dance, Trip
Pop, jazz and gospel. Alanis Morrissette combines her
soulful lyrics, changeable rhythms and her expressive
vocals to create this album with all the most collectible
songs from her career over the past decade.
