Following in the footsteps of The Radio Dept. under
Labrador Records, Sambassadeur recently stepped into
the British independent music world when they caused
a stir among fans who like the music of Club AC30 and
HDIF. These fresh, new Swedish musicians bear a resemblance
to their fellow countrymen, The Concretes, who themselves
caused a stir last year. Lead vocalist Anna puts a sweet
twist to the influence of The Velvet Underground; all
she lacks is the soulfulness of 60's all-female groups.
Male vocalist Daniel sings with an air of nonchalance,
with gaps between the guitar music, reminding one of
Jesus and the Mary Chain. Sambassadeur's guitar music
rings through the air like wind chimes in the breeze.
Soft and dreamy with a hint of fantasy, songs like "New
Moon", "Ice & Snow", "Dead Leaves"
and "Between the Lines" are all filled with
Nordic warmth and sunshine. "If Rain" is a
song that brings images of fun in the rain to mind,
with tinkling piano music that is light and free. Listening
to Sambassadeur is like seeing an old friend smiling
back at you.
