Title: Bounce, Make and Model
Label: Warp Records

The current darling of London's stratospherically-cool
Warp label not only manages to effortlessly layer Aphex
Twin-esque production techniques over swirling keyboard
tracks, but does it all at the ripe age of 21. "Bounce
Make and Model"'s tight sound shifts between the
dance floor and the ride home from the club, another
teaser EP from a man to watch. The experimental side
of Warp's other artists shines through on the single
"I Wanna Be Your STD" where Edgar successfully
integrates somewhat stream-of-consciousness lyrics into
a drum track that, without the pulsating base line,
would verge on randomness. One of the more interesting
Warp tracks released in some time, "Inner Citee,
Colour Reprise" is a melange of quick, well-produced
drum work and gorgeous synth lines The only downside
to the track is the unnecessary fade into grating noise,
slightly spoiling what could have been a career-maker.
DJing with such greats as Derrick May when he was only
15, Edgar has the potential to become one of electronica's
youngest super-talents. Warp needs to pressure this
man to put out a full-length album as soon as possible. |
