Ed DMX's mini-release "Collapse
of the Wave Function" is indeed, as his label mentions,
"quite simply, different from anything else Ed
has ever done before." Though it does carry the
characteristic DMX '80s drones and low-key production
of his earlier work, tracks often verge into slow, soft
requiem-type pieces before returning to themes better
suited to a cartoon version of Night Rider. Yet the
album retains a curious pull for a late-night listen
in a dark room with a glass of wine. It's almost tempting
to call the album an electronic joke, before the listener
starts to find himself humming half the songs on the
way into work the next day. DMX is rumored to use no
synths prior to 1985 and is often seen accompanying
himself beat boxing during sets. If nothing else the
title, referring to a relatively obscure theory on the
dual nature of wave/particles, is interesting.
