They've
got three kinds of music in Scotland. Twee, not so twee,
and really frigg'n twee. You get all three kinds in "an
independent music magazine from Scotland" called "is
this music?" The Scots, God bless them, no matter
how twisted their bands try to be (Beta Band, anyone?)
and their tunes have their melodic hooks intact. Is this
music? Delivers 10 wonderfully bent pop/rock/punk songs
on the CD. This issue (#9) has burned brilliant songs
by The Gena Rowlands Band, Frog Pocket, Franz Ferdinand
and F**k-off Machette into me noggin. This slim magazine
is stuffed with recorded and live music reviews, commentary,
news, and interviews on what has to be every single Scottish
band since the Earle of Bruce rocked the house. Bonus
for Americans: is this music? does not need English subtitles
like Trainspotting.
