New High-Speed Rail Design Unveiled

Faced with cost overruns, the high-speed railroad consortium has
unveiled a new, more cost-effective design. Featuring a radical
new "open-air" look, a narrower track and colorful appearance,
the new design aims to not only increase rider enjoyment but also
save money at this critical juncture. Says a company representative:
"Taiwan's mountain scenery is among the best in Asia. We want
to capitalize on this with our new 'open-air' design. We expect
tourism to benefit as a result. When the project is completed in
June, 2086, our grandchildren will thank us." Expected to have
an average speed of over 200 kph, the new train will still be able
to make the Taipei-Kaohsiung trip in around 90 minutes. Hair gel,
shower caps and rain gear will be on sale at all stations.
