Nixon's Forgotten Stab at Being a Rake

President Richard Nixon's love of conspiracy and hatred of the
Kennedy clan is well known, but his attempt to create false rumours
to the effect that he was as much of a rake as John F. Kennedy was
one of his lessor known failures. With rumours abounding of the
Kennedy's conquest of American icon Marilyn Monroe and the consequent
boost to their reputations irritating Nixon, he decided to strike
back in characteristic fashion. Determining that nothing less than
another American icon would do, he settled on Lucille Ball, star
of the hit show 'I Love Lucy'. He began to invite the unwitting
Ms. Ball to the White House at odd hours for tea, and brought her
along on two trips aboard Air Force One in an attempt to create
the idea that they were having an affair. Unfortunately for Mr.
Nixon, rumours failed to materialise.
