JUNE, 2001 - The
Final Question Man |
|
"How has
Taichung changed since
you first got here?"
|
 |
Dan Connolly (1989)
Calgary, Canada
Choices,
Taichung has a lot more Western restaurants and fewer pubs.
Fewer people are double abandoning their cars on the streets.
Downtown has been cleaned up a bit and even has some parking.

T.L.I.
has changed location. Taichung hotel was a hotspot, only Taiwan
beer, no McDonalds. 100 NT notes were green. 10 NT notes were
red; National Hotel was a meeting point for breakfast on Sunday
mornings. Knew every ET in town by his or her face.

The
Dumpling shop downtown has closed. No Pig and Whistle and
finally real Mexican food on Hua Mei St.

Traffic
has gotten worse and parking is more difficult. You can't
go inside the big Buddha anymore.

More
Sogo's than I know what to do with. Downtown is almost empty,
a lot of short-time foreigners and no "Captains"!
