Offering a total of 32 ice cream parfaits (NT$160-300), not to mention dozens of other desserts, snacks, coffees (NT$80-120), teas and other drinks, this is the first international branch of Kyoto-based Karafuneya Coffee. Light meals, including six sandwiches and rice dishes like Beef Curry with Pork Cutlet (NT$250) are also served.--By Douglas Habecker, translated by Angel Pu

A. Adventurous eaters can try two very unconventional desserts--the Fried Pork Cutlet Parfait and Fried Chicken Parfait (NT$200). This bizarre combination is surprisingly good with the crunchy, saltiness of the fried meat highlighting the sweet, smooth ice cream.

B. The mother of all parfaits, Karafuneya's Jumbo Parfait (NT$3,000) is a monstrous tower of ice cream, fruit, whipped cream, cake slices and other ingredients perfect for about 10 people to share. Slighty-smaller versions include the 3-4-person Strawberry & Chocolate Jug Parfait (NT$900).

Karafuneya CoffeeC. This sizable restaurant has plenty of table seating, including a Japanese garden area, plus private cubicles.
