Probably more than any other establishment
in town, Sun Cafe truly resembles a sidewalk French
cafe--the kind tourists love along the Champs Elysees.
Situated on a corner about 20 meters from the intersection
of WenXin South and WenXin South 2nd roads, this open-air
cafe has big red canopies, cushioned rattan-like chairs,
small tables covered with white linen tablecloths, interior
carpets, a small coffee bar and smart-looking waiters.
In another unprecedented touch, Sun Cafe is entirely
staffed by foreign language teachers--from Japan, Korea,
Spain, Italy, France, the U.S. and elsewhere--who work
at the Sun Cafe language center across the street. The
idea is to to provide students and the general public
with a nice atmosphere to not only eat and drink, but
also practice the seven foreign languages and Chinese
that the school teaches. Better yet, any order--including
the NT$99 all-you-can-drink coffee--gets you a free
class session at the school. The cafe's regular menu--prepared
by a French chef and his staff--includes NT$180-200
combos that include soup, fruit, bread and a drink with
main courses like Curry Chicken, Grilled Lasagna, and
American Breakfast Combo. There are also single-order
dishes like Bruschetta/French Salad with Cheese, Salade
Parisienne, and Assorted Cheese Plate (NT$120), plus
plenty of coffees, teas, wines, beer (NT$90), juices,
and snacks like Apple Crumble, Crepes with Chocolate,
and Upside-Down Caramelized Apple Tart. A Japanese restaurant
will soon open in the basement, too.
