LA CITE PLAZA
Szuchuan Road (near Hankou Road intersection)
Tel: 04-2324-0959
Touted as the island's first American-style outlet mall, La Cite
Plaza will feature a variety of name-brand outlet stores offering
products for cheaper prices, according to developers. The quake
delayed the mall's opening but plans call for the November 1 soft-opening
of most first-floor stores, cafes and other establishments, numbering
up to about 55. From November 1 to 11, stores will be open daily
from 2 to 9 p.m. An official, full opening is scheduled for November
12. The large, underground level--currently being used by the city
government for 921 Quake-related activities -- will probably not
open until early next year. The mall is a very attractive setting
which bears more resemblance to a European cafe street than an American
shopping center, with fountains, street lamps, cobblestone walk-ways.
The plaza is within 100 meters of the Taichung Harbor and Hankou/Tunghsing
road intersection but is almost hidden. To get there from Harbor
Road, turn onto Hankou Road (which is Tunghsing Rd. on the opposite
side of Harbor Rd.) and turn left onto Szuchuan Road at the first
traffic light. The mall entrance is about 20 meters up the road.
