Xitun District residents living around the Science Park and Tunghai University will appreciate this large new hypermart and shopping complex, owned by Taiwan Sugar Corp. Taisuco's first Taichung branch is the fifth on the island (the others are all in southern Taiwan) and follows a formula near-identical to other hypermarket chains. Located near the intersection of Industrial Park 1st Road, this large, attractive building has plenty of parking on the B1, 3F and 4F levels. The main entrance leads into a spacious food court and shopping arcade, with about a dozen restaurants and cafes, including a snack bar for Taiwan Sugar's famous ice creams and popsicles, plus shops selling clothes, shoes and household items. Even by hypermart standards, Taisuco's main hypermarket is very spacious, well-stocked and attractively laid-out. One notable area is the shop-like wine and liquor section, perhaps the nicest of any hypermart, with a broad range of cheap-to-expensive wines. Like other chains, Taisuco offers membership cards with various benefits. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
