Anyone looking for good bread as well as various traditional Japanese
baked specialties should check out this bakery chain, which just
opened its third Taichung branch on Tatun Road. Pao Chuan dates
back 66 years to Japan where the current Taiwanese owner's father
opened his first store in Tajikawa, in the Tokyo prefecture. There
are over 300 types of baked goods--made fresh daily and thrown out
if unsold each day--including standard varieties of bread and over
50 Japanese products, like the little "namakashi" baked dumplings.
Regular visits by well-known Japanese bakers help keep everything
authentic. Heading south on Tatun Road, Pao Chuan is about 100 meters
on the left, just before the Tayeh Road intersection.
