Gong High has been a Taichung nightlife mainstay for a few years now as one of the few late-night places to meet new people or old friends over a few drinks and, if desired, some great food as well. Offering a good alternative to the local club scene, it provides a lower-key pub-type setting where you can sit and talk without having to shout over deafening dance music. On Thursdays, it does offer live musical performances as well as the occasional guest DJ for the musically inclined and you can check its Facebook page for specific bands and dates.
Those also looking for something good to eat might also want to check in for Gong High's Barbecue Nights, offering plenty of great meats and vegetables for reasonable prices. There are also Wing Nights every Monday with some of the most delicious wings in the city for only NT$10 each. These go great with the NT$100 special-offer cold Coronas. Occasionally, if you're lucky, you can also get ribs on Monday nights. On any other regular evening here, hungry guests can enjoy great food choices from the menu, including cheese sticks, chicken fingers and salty pork for NT$120, salads (NT$180) and heavier fare like the Gong High Burger Patty with Red Wine Sauce and Fries or Pan Fried Chicken Breast (NT$160).
However, the real reason for coming to Gong High is to enjoy the great selection of libations. There are are on-tap pints of Carlsberg or San Miguel Dark for NT$150 and a large cocktail selection, starting at NT$150 and going up to the NT$300 Long Island Iced Tea. If you're feeling adventurous, ask for a Jagerbomb Bomb (NT$300) but be careful as it's pretty strong. Gong High also offers plenty of shots (NT$120-150) and even Fireball Whiskey, which is as tasty as it is hard to find in Taiwan.
