If you're looking for a suitable Taichung spot to relax, enjoy some live music and work your way through a long list of cocktails and other drinks, one option you may have not yet tried is H Bar, located just off of the Howard Prince Hotel's first-floor lobby.

H Bar has a sophisticated, lounge-like feeling to it with upscale decor including colorful lights, comfortable sofas and, at night, candle-lit tables. A big column in the center of the lounge reflects the ambient light and separates an open area--sometimes used by customers for dancing--from a tables near the stage and a sofa seating area. The stage is used daily by a live band from 9:30 to 11:45 p.m. weekdays and from 8 to 11:45 p.m. weekend evenings. They welcome requests from the guests, so you can think up songs you'd like to hear played. The bar here is also a nice spot to watch a sports match on TV and enjoy a chat over a beer.

Besides beer, H Bar offers dozens of different mixed drinks, all prepared with high-grade liquor. These range from classics like the Martini (NT$250) and Mojito (NT$250) to "Exotic Drinks" selections like two NT$250 house cocktails, the whiskey-based Howard Man and Howard Woman, made with peach liqueur and a cherry.

Day and night, there is also food available, with a range of Western and Eastern entrees, set meals, light-food selections and appetizers. The Signature Beef Noodle Soup (NT$360) combines thick noodles and very tender Australian beef in a soup made with a sugarcane broth and black bean sauce, and this meal set includes side vegetables. Another top-seller, the Crunchy German Pork Knuckle (NT$680), is amazingly crispy, seasoned with cumin, and served with a delicious dijon mustard.
