If you're looking for a stylish, chilled-out place to spend an evening with drinks, or grab some food and coffee any time of the day, head to The Lounge, located just off Hotel National's lobby. The black, chic-looking entrance leads into a spacious lounge bar, which doubles as a coffee shop restaurant during the day. The swanky decor includes cushy brown and maroon chairs, grey carpet, bead curtains and curving glass walls. For alcohol, there are beers (NT$150-180), cocktails, a respectable red wine list, and plenty of spirits, including single-malt Scotch whiskies, cognac and champagne. A good selection of teas (NT$120-150/pot) and coffees (NT$120-180) can also be enjoyed with some desserts as part of a NT$299 teatime special (2-5:30 pm). A big glass dessert case displays a savory-looking variety of choices (NT$100-150). --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee

A. At night, one of The Lounge's walls--incorporating the hotel's logo into its design--glows in changing flourescent colors, adding to the ambiance.

B. Created by one of the bartenders here, the Jaffa cocktail (NT$220) is a sweet, refreshing drink made with Cointreau, Creme de menthe and Sprite. In addition to a long cocktail list, there are also a number of NT$200 non-alcoholic "virgin" cocktails.

C. The Smoked Salmon Bagel is one of the meals available at The Lounge. There are a number of Chinese and Western lunch (11:30 am-2 pm) and dinner (5:30 pm-1 am) entrees available, from Hotel National's famed Chef's Beef Noodles (NT$350) to Roasted Pork Ribs and various pasta dishes.
