M&M
LOUNGE
(04) 2311-5609
22-27, TaiZhongGang (Taichung Kang) Road, Sec. 2
Hours: 8 pm-3 am (closed Mondays)
With an innocuous-looking entrance and
no large sign, this small lounge bar is almost hidden
in its TaiZhongGang Road location, about half-way between
the Hankou/ DongXing and Dadun roads intersections.
However, that's just the way the management likes it
as they create more of a private-club feel. The minimalist,
dimly-lit interior includes a first-floor bar, with
all seven table/sofa areas located on the second floor.
These are available with a reasonable NT$350 minimum
charge per person. In keeping with its image, the bar
concentrates on high-end alcoholic beverages, serving
only Erdinger dark (500cc NT$280) and Hoegaarden beers
and a variety of other spirits, such as seven single-malt
scotches (Macallan, Glenmorangie, Laphroaig, Glenfiddich),
brandies, Johnnie Walker whiskies, Moet champagne and
red wines. What is unusually good about M&M is its
cuisine, prepared on site by two experienced chefs.
The reasonably-priced mostly-Asian fare includes the
salad-like Hefeng Onions (NT$150), "Ching Lung"
(Green Dragon) Beef, Pineapple Shrimp Balls, Fried Chicken
(NT$250), and french fries. Not surprisingly, most of
the music is of the lounge/chill-out variety and is
kept to a nice volume level for normal conversations.
There are also occasional parties. --By Douglas Habecker,
