Collective Unconscious (CU) is one of the oldest dance clubs in town. Although it has only been open for a couple of years, Taichung's fickle scene has left it today as one of the best places to catch hip-hop, house and breaks every night from 9 p.m. to 3 or 4 a.m.

Located just south of TaiZhongGang (Taichung Kang) Road, Section 1, CU is on the corner of JingCheng Road and JingCheng 1st Street (beside World Gym and Subway). Take the lift up to the second or third floors and you'll enter two very different spaces. The second floor is a lounge area with a techno-bar, sofa seating under glass walls and private rooms for very important parties. Here you can peruse the menu, loaded with eclectic dinner choices and wines. A couple of their best-selling dishes are the Brazilian Style Roasted Fillet Steak (NT$360) and the Deep Fry Various with chicken, potato, yam and calamari (NT$250). With 19 dishes (NT$200-360), four white wines and 10 reds (NT$1,600+), you can bet that your table will be as full as your mouth is.
The third floor is filled with a dance floor, save for bar stools skirting the area and the bar itself. Between dance partners, indulge in some of CU's creative cocktails, including their Freestyle Cocktail (NT$300), made with three to four ounces of liquor and mixed according to how you feel and what you like. Or try one of six different beers (NT$150-250).

This intimate club is a great place to check out with a group of friends because you can grab your own area and be treated like a star. Sundays to Thursdays feature all-you-can-drink cocktails (NT$500 for men, NT$400 for women), Wednesday has live DJs, Friday is House Night (NT$300 for 2 drinks) with KTN DJ Group (formerly of BOBO), and Saturday is Party Night with different DJs and promoters keeping it fresh.
