FUBAR
25-9, DaYe Road (Soho Street)
|
--By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Li
FuBar is Taichung's newest dedicated sports
bar, serving up full schedule of sports broadcasts in addition
to drinks and food. Located on the pedestrian-only "Soho
Street" just off of DaYe Road, this pleasant watering
hole is neighbors with Salut Pizza and PJ's Cafe, and features
a two-sided bar that faces both outdoor and indoor tables.
In addition, there's a small mezzanine lounge area upstairs.
Canadian Dwayne Worden, who originally hails from the Ottawa
area, is going through unprecedented lengths to provide the
best sports coverage possible, making FuBar the first bar
to utilize a "sling box" and TiVo sytems in addition
to satellite TV, bringing every NHL hockey game straight from
Canada, not to mention a full schedule of rugby, football
(soccer), baseball and NFL American football. Broadcasts are
shown on a projection-screen TV as well as three other TV
sets. However, it's not just for the guys, as Dwayne also
stresses that he wants FuBar to be a comfortable female-friendly
place, too. Beers range from NT$100 Heinekens to NT$130 large
Qingdao beers and NT$150 Guinness and Boddington's, and there
are NT$150 bar shots and various cocktails, like the NT$180
Caesar Bloody Mary. Food includes burgers (NT$150), hotdogs
(NT$120), the Chicken Burger (NT$180), Chili (NT$180) and
that all-Canadian favorite, Poutine (french fries with cheese
and gravy).
