THE
LONDONER
143, HuaMei West Road, section 1
 |
--By Douglas Habecker, translated by Uvia
Chang
Yes, that's right, The Londoner has returned
to Taichung! After closing their landmark establishment opposite
Peoples' Square earlier this year, owners/managers Paul and
Jennifer have decided to stage a comeback with an all-new
sports bar, this time located along the HuaMei West Street
canal and north of TaiZhongGang Road. The red British phone
booth outside makes this place hard to miss. Inside has a
bright attractive, upbeat feel to it, with a first-floor bar
(offering Stella Artois, Old Speckled Hen and San Miguel on
tap) and some high tables and chairs. A wide staircase leads
to the spacious, wood-floored area upstairs, where the big,
projection-screen sports broadcasts are shown, thanks to Londoner's
three satellite channels airing everything from Canadian hockey
games to rugby and football. There is also a dance and DJ
area, a pool table and foozball. In addition to a full range
of drinks, Londoner will also maintain its diverse menu, with
favorites like the Chicken Kebab in Pita Bread, and have NT$250
weekend brunches from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.--diners pick five
out of 10 menu selections and get coffee and juice. There
will be parties every month and readers can check the Nightlife
"What's On" listings in this magazine for other
regular Londoner specials (like free bar on your birthday!).
