This funky new lounge bar, located along Hua Mei West Street in the Canal District, takes a fresh approach with its Baroque-style decor, complete with its red neon highlights, chandeliers, long bar and seating area, which forgoes the usual sofas for round tables surrounded by comfortable chairs. The atmosphere is completed with projection-screen TVs on both ends of the room, and music by house DJs Sky and Hawaii, who are joined by guest DJs on weekends. Mash is the first Taichung venture for the people who have run the popular Hsinchu bar and lounge, Mr. Seven, for the past two years. The clientele tends towards a younger, upscale crowd. From the corner wine cellar comes a variety of reds and whites, plus champagnes like Moet Chandon, Dom Perignon (NT$350/glass) and others. There are high-end vodkas, single-malt Scotches, cocktails (NT$250-300), Belgian beers (NT$200), and other more common beers like Bud and Heineken (NT$150). Food will probably be added later. Special parties are planned for the summer, so keep checking "What's On".
