Once located above Supau Cafe, Taichung's only Spanish bar
and restaurant has moved to a much-improved, larger place
just off of Jing Cheng Road, about 50 meter behind Sogo II.
The new La Bodega definitely has a bright, Mediterranean feel
to it, with golden-yellow walls downstairs and white ones
upstairs, tile-decorated counters and tables inside and outside.
The first-floor bar has a variety of drinks, including Boddington's
on tap (NT150), NT$120 bottled beers, spirits and cocktails,
and Spanish wines, from the NT$700 Rioja El Cota (NT$150/glass)
to the NT$2,100 Vina Mayor Riserva. One mustn't miss the "Espcialidad"
Spanish special drinks, like Sangria (NT$120) or Tinto de
Verano summer wine. Probably most exceptional is the menu,
featuring a mix of Spanish tapas appetizers (NT$50-120), including
Tortilla de patatas (Spanish omelette with potatoes), Calamares
fritos (fried squid), and Gambas a la parilla (grilled prawn).
There are also a la carte dishes, like paella (NT$250) and
spaghetti, and sandwiches, such as Almeria (omelette with
green salad) and Malaga (salad, tuna, eggs, tomato, onion).
Upstairs, there is a pool table, darts and satellite projection
TV, showing regular sporting competitions. To get there, take
Jing Cheng Road from Taichung Gang Road and turn left at the
second alley.
