Under Park is a very large new multi-purpose disco/lounge/women's work-out club, located underground in what once was the Golden Eye disco pub, beneath the Great Earth movie theater building. Walk down the stairs, through the neon-lit passageways and you'll come to the main attraction--one of Taichung's largest dance floors (400 pings), completely mounted on big springs. This means that this place really rocks, quite literally, when there's dancing. The disco, equipped with a NT$15 million sound system, can easily accomodate hundreds. During the daytime, Under Park operates as a women's-only work-out center, with the focus on aerobic dance work-outs and similar exercise. Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 pm. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday; and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Friday and Saturday nights, it turns into big disco,complete with a big stage, DJ booth, bar facilities and plenty of seating (NT$400 cover charge). On other evenings, it serves as more of a bar and lounge, with relaxing sofas and lounge music (minimum NT$400/person charge).--By Douglas Habecker
