This popular pub is no newcomer to Taichung, having already made a name for itself over the past few years at two previous locations near Feng Chia University. Things should get even better with an all-new location in the heart of the popular Canal District, right next door to Shark Den. Drawing a regular mixed crowd of Taiwanese and foreigners, 89K has a cozy interior with tables downstairs and in a little balcony area, all decorated by owner/manager Joseph with American Indian motifs. There is plenty of outside, sidewalk seating, too. The bar serves NT$100 beers and NT$150 cocktails/mixed drinks. On Thursdays from 8 pm to 2 am, there is a barbecue (NT$100/three sticks) and finger foods include NT$80 fries and onion rings. Spend over NT$500 and get a free 89K T-shirt, which will garner a free beer on Friday nights. Large Taiwan beers are also available on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays for NT$100.
