It was not so much the heat as it was the humidity. The gang was
having a few when all hell broke loose. An argument over who should've
got the right to host the 2008 Olympics ensued and I was taking
the brunt of the criticism. I left my friends in disgust and decided
to go it alone to a bar a little off the beaten path. After careful
consideration, I went to the Farmhouse Pub.
The Farmhouse Pub is located in Tunghai Piehshu near the Cat and
Moon Cafe. Still taken aback by the inconsiderate comments of my
so-called friends, I bellied up to the bar for a bottle of self
pity. It was then that I was pleasantly surprised by the beer prices
(NT$100) (shades of the Riverside) The Farmhouse has a reasonably
priced menu of cocktails, meals(mmm Hotpot!) and snacks. It is a
dark Pub, but light enough to see the pictures of late movie stars
hanging from the wall.
It just so happened that scenes for the movie "Dukie"
were being filmed at the time I was there. I offered to be an extra,
but was politely refused ( something about having a face fit for
radio). A few minutes later, a young lady came over and asked me
if I wrote an article for the Compass. Beaming with glee I pleaded
guilty to the charge only to have her tell me how much she enjoyed
my analysis of Taichung's local music scene. After a few awkward
seconds, I thanked her and helped myself to another beer from the
fridge.
The Farmhouse Pub's friendly staff was able to lift my spirits
as the night progressed. On the Paddyboy Bar rating scale the Farmhouse
Pub gets five Taiwan beers out of a possible six. The next day my
friends and I agreed that we had all been afflicted with a case
of the stupids the night before. We decided to spend the night catching
up on lost time at the service friendly Farmhouse Pub. Summertime
and the living is easy......
