The Lion King is the new next-door neighbor to Taichung's popular Pig Pen pub and is unmistakable with its large neon sign and enormous lion head entrance, which looks like something one would see in Las Vegas. The high-ceiling interior has room for 500 to 600 patrons and seating for about 400 around a compact dance floor and on a second-floor balcony level. Live bands from around the island play every night from 9:30 pm on, alternating with deejays. One very attractive feature of Lion King is its cover charge -- NT$200 on all nights including weekends. Foreigners get in free on Saturdays and so do ladies on Monday and Tuesday ladies nights. Drinks average NT$150 each.
