Belarusian/Taiwanese couple Valery and Angel have replaced their ChongDe Road branch with this picturesque restaurant retreat in the foothills near Miaoli county. Resembling a Russian-style country "dacha" (cottage), it sits on an almost 10,000-square-meter hillside plot and offers 150 seats inside and at balcony and covered-area tables outside. New additions like pizza and hot pot set meals join Russian and western favorites like Kotleta Meat Balls and grilled steaks. Just before Rt. 3 descends to Miaoli's Zhuolan township, turn right into Retski's lane at the 152-km. marker and traffic light at the crest of the hill. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by S. Ying
