Along-term mainstay in Taichung's western dining scene, Early Bird Diner offers savory meals for every palate. Whether you want a hearty breakfast, filling lunch or dinner, or just a light snack, it has you covered. Located just south of Taiwan Boulevard, this feaster's haven is also hard to miss.
The restaurant has a great retro look, with a wrap-around seating bar and posters of western celebrities and icons decorating the walls. The well-spaced tables with comfortable seating, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff are all great, but the hard-to-beat food is the main reason this writer will keep going back for more.

The 'Deuce's Wild' (NT$259) is a breakfast fit for a king. With two eggs, two slices of bacon, two sausages and a serving of home fries, plus toast and juice (or coffee) on the side, you'll be hard pressed to finish it all, but it's so good you'll probably do so anyway.
If breakfast doesn't suit your mood, the burgers are also a treat for the taste buds. With a thick, mouthwatering beef patty, lettuce and tomato, the Western Burger (NT$249) has lots of bacon, cheese, onion rings and barbecue sauce, and comes with a helping of french fries. It was delicious from start to finish and to wash it down I had an equally delicious Chocolate Peanut Butter Milkshake (NT$150). This carefully crafted shake was a work of art, and the flavors balanced quite nicely with each other and whipped cream on top.

The menu is extensive and offers so much more than burgers and eggs. If you're so inclined, there are also wraps (NT$159-239), pasta entrees (NT$179-249), sandwiches (NT$99-249), salads (NT$129-289) and a wide range of breakfast dishes that would fill the menu at most restaurants. Most dishes can also be upgraded to combos for a little extra cost.
Whatever your tastes, be sure to bring a big appetite to Early Bird and don't forget to ask about the specials, as there's often a deal to be had, including Taco Tuesdays and Wing Night Wednesdays--yet more great reasons to stop by. |
