On a quiet lane just off YingCai Road about a block from Hotel ONE, Just Diner is run by Taiwanese-American chef/owner Daniel Yang, who makes an unusually large percentage of his American-style breakfast ingredients himself, including homemade smoked salmon, pastrami, bacon, breakfast sausage, butter, ricotta cheese, and sourdough and regular bread--all part of his "whole foods" philosophy. Besides breakfasts, he also serves quesadillas, various waffles (NT$180-285) and cupcakes. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by S. Ying
A. The 10 all-day breakfast entrees, with movie-inspired names, includes stand-outs like Beautiful Life (NT$285), a big plate of everything--pastrami, sausage, salmon, tomato and an omelette, plus Norway Forest (NT$240), smoked salmon served with capers, onions, olives and scrambled eggs. All come with bread, rosemary potatoes, garden salad and coffee, tea or juice.
B. Daniel poses with his filling Pastrami Salad (NT$220).
C. The relaxing interior is decorated by Daniel in an industrial style with hanging light bulbs, glass walls and wooden tables and shelving. |
