Kurdish-Turkish owner and experienced chef Mahmut Durdu and his Taiwanese wife Shuhua recently opened Mesopotamia, located within walking distance of Chung Hsing University. They offer halal meat dishes as well as vegetarian meals; menu items (NT$70-200) include yogurts, salads, different kebabs, Sackavurma and Turkish burritos, all made with various Turkish spices and natural herbs. --By Javier Siles, translated by Angela Cheng
A. Mahmut's beautiful hand-painted menu is displayed on a wall as Turkish background music plays in the background, all part of the welcoming atmosphere here.
B. The homemade original Yogurt (NT$50) contains no water or sugar and is topped with mint, making it a delicious, refreshing starter. The NT$60 Cacik (pictured, back) is yogurt mixed with cucumber, mint and garlic.
C.
Sackavurma (chicken/NT$120) consists of salad, mixed Turkish orzo (rice-shaped pasta) and Taiwanese rice, chicken meat and pita bread. Other dishes include the Beef & Chicken Kebab with Rice (NT$150) and tasty Beef Burrito, only NT$90. |
