Crowds of camera-wielding visitors are evidence that this very impressive new pastry gift shop/ice creamerie/cafe is already a Taichung landmark attraction. The well-known Dawncake bakery chain took a derelict brick building--on the Luchuan Canal near the train station--built in 1927 and once home to the Gongyuan Eye Doctor ("Yanke") clinic,and transformed it into a stunning retro-style branch. A. The amazing main area resembles an enormous old English library with five-floor-high shelves and other counter areas displaying pastry gift boxes instead of books.

Dawncake's wide variety of retro-style pastry gift boxes include pineapple cakes, suncakes, nougat, tea bags, and cake sets for weddings, Mother's Day and new babies.
 C. Visitors line up for Dawncake's first-ever ice creamerie, which offers 18 different chocolate flavors, graded by cocoa percentage (44-100%) and beans, as well as 18 fruit flavors and 10 tea flavors.
