Although founded in Nantou, the Xin Zhen Xiang store is marking almost a decade of service by opening a new location in Taichung—just in time for Moon Festival. Their Vanilla Pork Ribs can be purchased raw (NT$520/1,000g) or cooked (NT$650/1,200g). These 10, freshly-packed pork ribs do not have excess fat, are well-seasoned, and go well with red wine. Slightly Salted Black Pepper Pork (NT$160/460g) is similar to Hakka-style salty pork; the excess grease and salt are removed during preparation to make the dish healthier. Xin Zhen Xiang's cooking style for smoked meat, like poultry and pork, is very traditional; the chefs use charcoal, sugar cane and a special smoker to make these lean cuts of meat as tasty as possible. The Sausage with Sugar Cane and Red Wine (NT$200/250g) also delivers great flavor. The best part is that, from 5 to 7 p.m. every Saturday, Xin Zhen Xiang gives away free samples.
