After years of existence, the Shoushi restaurant group has spent a considerable amount of money to open their first branch in Taichung. As you make your way into the restaurant, French windows allow some sunshine through the entrance, brightening up the entire place. The white sakura-patterned ceiling and black-and-white curtains complement each other perfectly, with the curtains and wooden grid-like walls partitioning the tatami rooms. The sushi bar stretches across the entire restaurant and, no matter which corner you end up in, the decor defines a new, classy Japanese style that's quite different from other places.

There are three sections at Shoushi. The first floor offers all-you-can-eat Japanese cuisine, served to your table and freshly prepared when you order. This costs NT$568 for lunch, and NT$688 for dinner and all day weekends. The second floor specializes in shark's fin and other seafood delicacies, offering two types of business lunches priced at NT$680/$880, or a set meal costing NT$1,280 all day. Banquet table menus start from NT$8,700.

Shoushi provides a luxurious dining environment, as well as some unconventional dining rituals. Although the first floor operates in an all-you-can-eat style, it also provides a great range of seafood, poultry and vegetable dishes with fresh seasoned ingredients. With high-end quality dishes like shark's fin and abalone available for affordable prices, more customers are sure to be drawn here.

The delicious Peony Mochi (sushi rice with assorted toppings) is made with skill and fresh ingredients. Using specially-selected quality beef, sea urchins and other ingredients, chefs mold the sushi into proper shapes before putting them on the grill to give a unique, slightly burnt flavor. For the Hokkaido Sumo Hot Pot, you have the choice of a light or rich soup base, which contains the flavors of scallops, crab meat, oysters, brown swordbelt mushrooms and pork bone; savoring the natural flavors of all these ingredients is unforgettable. The shark's fin stew is cooked with a braised style. Other dishes to try include Stone-Grilled Sirloin Steak and Braised Abalone in Oyster Sauce. Finally, for those seeking healthier dining, Shoushi also offers trendy vegetarian meals.
