Taichung's newest Indian restaurant is an attractive, 140-seat establishment on the top of Chung Yo Department Store's "B" building. The Hong Kong owner also runs outlets in Taipei's Miramar shopping center and Taoyuan county's Chungli city. His Taichung branch features experienced Indian chefs Santosh Kumar and Jai Prakash who, respectively, have worked at New Delhi's The Metropolitan Hotel Nikko and Hotel Taj. Authentic Indian dishes include Nurani Curry Chicken (NT$260, NT$360 meal set) with chicken pieces cooked in a onion masala with various spices; Chicken Tikka Masala (NT$280/380); Butter Chicken, with roast chicken in a tomato cashewnut gravy; and Mutton Roganjosh (NT$320/420). There are also various Indian breads like Roti, Samosas and other snacks like Curry French Fries (NT$60). The menu also has an "English-style Curry" section with entrees like Europe Style Curry Pork (NT$190/290), and a "Japanese-style Curry Pot" section with Curry Pork, Beef Fondue (NT$240/340) and other dishes like snacks. The tasteful decor includes Indian handicrafts and a dark-blue canopy hanging from the ceiling, giving it a tent-like feel. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
