This sister to Taichung's well-known Peach Blossom teahouse restaurants is in the famous woodcarving town of Sanyi. Facing a big reflecting pool bordered by outdoor tables, the very large, modern, rectangular, two-floor, 300-ping building uses plenty of bare concrete, glass walls, high ceilings and squarish tables, softened with some classic Chinese decor like large birdcages and buddhist statues. A menu of tasty, mostly-Italian cuisine includes main courses such as Grilled Rib Eye Steak with Bearnaise Sauce (NT$780), Pacific Dory with Caper Butter Sauce (NT$560) and various pasta and risotto dishes--like the creative Mozzarella Ball-Shaped Italian Rice Croquet with Meat Sauce (NT$300). These all come with salad, soup, bread, and coffee/tea. On weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. there are NT$260 business lunches, too. Plus, there are hot pots, salads, tortillas, and plenty of drinks (NT$100-160), from Chinese teas and siphon-style coffees to health juices and cocktails. There is live traditional local music Friday through Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. From the freeway, take the main woodcarving street (JhongJheng Rd., Rt. 13) to the first 7-11 and turn right onto a bridge over the freeway. Continue straight ahead, turn right at the T-intersection and it's just down the road.
